My Reasons to be Cheerful #R2BC

Well, it has been some time since I have linked up with My Reasons to be Cheerful, but I am looking forward to doing so.  I love that no matter how bad your week may seem, there is a reason to sit down and pick out what good has happened.  No matter how small.

This month (jolly old April) it is being hosted by Ojo's World, so please link up and check out the other uplifting posts.  If you are having a bad day, it might be just what you need to encourage you to find the positive.

So, without further ado;

What has made me cheerful this week?

* My mum came to stay.  Since the relocation it has been a big adjustment, not having my parents just around the corner.  Mum and I would pretty much see each other, at some point, every day.  So now we are two hours away we have to arrange 'stay-overs' and this week was one of them.  It is lovely to have her company for a couple of days.  I take her to lunch and she clears my ironing basket.  I get extra help with the children, always much appreciated.  And I get to be reminded that I am very lucky to, not only have my mum but to have such a wonderful friendship with her.

* Dancing on Ice - The Live Show.  One of the reasons for my mums visit this time was because I had tickets to see our favourite TV Show at Wembley Arena.  As soon as I heard that Dancing on Ice was going into it final ever series I booked tickets and we had good seats.  We had a wonderful evening, the show was absolutely fantastic and I am so glad I got to see my much loved idols Torvill and Dean perform for one last time.  It almost made me want to take up Ice-Skating again.  I said almost.

* I got 1300 words on my WiP written.  I wasn't sure I was going to get any done at the beginning of the week so I was very pleased with this.

* I caught up with some of my favourite blogs.  It has been a while since I have been in the blogging loop and it felt nice 'catching up' with the wonderful worlds of some of the lovely writers out there.

* We finally made some progress with one of the professionals I have been trying to get on board for J1.  Just one more phone call will mean that yes, we have got to the right place.  This makes me hopeful and more determined that I will track down the others.

* I started reading The Great Gatsby again.  I just love this story.

So onto another week we go.  Let's hope I have as much to be cheerful about next time!

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

Last week I missed my Reasons to be Cheerful post as I was featuring guest posts all week and I did really 'miss' it.  So without further ado, I am once again linking up with the #R2BC blog hop (this week hosted by Seasider in the City).

This week has been a bit of a tough one, for reasons out of our control and this results in a lot of frustration.  But as everyone who knows me, and or reads the blog, when this happens I like to try and channel that negative energy into something more positive.  I admit at times it is a struggle, but generally I get there.  What has been lovely is that my beautiful network of friends have been really supportive and that has made me feel really thankful for having the group of people around me that I do.  It has also pointed out that my husband and I really do have a strong relationship because my, we have been thrown some cr*p over the last 36 months, financially and health wise.

The week long series of guest posts on Appreciating Motherhood received a fantastic response.  I really enjoyed hosting the week and getting to know some wonderful bloggers and writers.  All the posts were so touching and heartfelt.  I felt most honoured to be publishing them on my blog.

Mother Sunday is always a lovely treat in the midst of what seems like the longest winter ever.  Although The Hubby wasn't well on Sunday so I didn't get a break from my everyday duties of Motherhood, I didn't have to cook and we spent a pleasant afternoon indulging in cake at my parents house.  I received some very sweet trinkets from the children and the most well worded card from The Hubby.

I also received the most fantastic email from one of my best friends.  We do not get to see each other as much as we would like as she lives in-a-whole-other-country : Wales.  However, my annual visit is next week and not only am I looking forward to a few days change of scenery and routine but my spa day that she bought me for my birthday last year.  The email was details of the package and wow, what a package.  A day at the Spa with 120 minutes of treatments of my choice.  H.E.A.V.E.N.  A whole day of relaxing, reading, eating and being pampered.  And at this precise point in the year, it couldn't be coming at a better time.  I do have to admit, I feel in need of it.

If you want to think about the best bits of your week you should jot them down and link up with Reasons to be Cheerful.  Read other posts and be inspired!

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

This post is a little late this week but as usual things have been full on, as they are within any household with children!  This weeks Reasons to be Cheerful is being hosted by Clare at Seasider in the City whilst Michelle at Mummy from the Heart takes a break from blogging for lent.  If you want inspiring posts to uplift your mood, hop over there.

Valentines

In the midst of a chilly and rather grey February is that day that people either love or hate; Valentines.  I must admit, it generally isn't something that bothers me and the Hubby and we do not go all out to do something 'special'.  We decided that as we have 'The Holiday' fast approaching we would not change that this year.

However, my parents offered to babysit Valentines evening for us as a surprise, so we had an off the cuff evening together with a gorgeous meal at our friends restaurant.  With good food and even better company it was nice to spend a few hours sans-children.

Half Term

The first one of 2013 has arrived and J1 has a few extra days this time.  The school he attends is undergoing a huge building project, and it is J1's classes turn to move to the new section.  So in order for them to pack up and re-locate J1 is getting three additional days off, which is lovely.  We are intending on taking a trip to the Zoo with our Gold Passes as long as the weather continues to be reasonably mild, which both boys love.  And it should be much easier now we have the power-pack to assist with the hills.

Projects

Exciting developments are continuing with the various 'work' projects I am pursuing at the moment.  They are giving me a real fire in my belly for making a new career - something I wasn't sure I would know how to do if I am honest.  This all helps with confidence building.

Christening

My brother and his wife have decided to get their boys Christened.  We are looking forward to a lovely family gathering in April for it.  The Hubby has always been for getting our boys Christened, but I have never pursued it.  However, the news from my brother really delighted my mum.  It turns out she is all for it and I never realised.  So we have decided to also get our children Christened later in the year.  I want to spend some time really learning about it and understanding it first.

Blog

I had a fantastic response to my call for guest bloggers for the week leading up to Mothers Day and I am looking forward to putting together an uplifting week of Appreciating Motherhood, in all its guises.

So a busy week and to wondering what the next one will bring.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

This has been another week that has quite literally flown by as we have been so busy.  I was worried it might be a bit of an anti-climax given the amount achieved last week but I am glad to say the momentum has continued.

If you want to be really cheered by people doing good for the world, check out Mummy from the Heart Michelle's Reasons to be Cheerful #R2BC #GoodWork #TeamHonk.  Then join up with the blog-hop once you have given some thought to your own high points of the week.  I know I say it every week, but even in the worst weeks you can generally find something positive and that helps on its own.

This week again has been a good one for family and for me personally.  The first point is something that made my heart swell until I thought it would burst, my eyes awash with tears and my mind more determined than ever that J1 will do as much as we can possible get him involved in.

* Many of you know I have recently returned to running and the story behind why I started the activity.  During my last race (back in October) I decided that I would love for J1 to be able to say he had been in a race.  He often says 'Can I come running with you Mummy?' when I am getting ready to go out training.  Obviously J1 is never going to be able to physically put his feet on the floor and run but not one to be foxed by such trivial barriers I thought about how we could make this happen.

Well of course, he can run with me.  Or, more to the point I can run with him.  Easy to say.  More difficult to actually do.  J1 is not a small boy and his chair is far from light.  My fitness is also not in peak shape after a knee problem and flu stopped me from training for three months.

Then I found, the most inspiring thing I have ever seen TEAM HOYT - I urge you to follow this link HERE and see the amazing determination of a father and son.  Read their story and have your heart filled with emotion of the true meaning of knowing no bounds of love for your child.

I am now determined to try and arrange a 'Our children will Run' race in the summer and am putting an action plan together of who I need to speak with to make it a reality.

* I am making progress on putting together pitch ideas for feature articles I would like to submit to various publications.  I wish I could work a bit faster on it, but I am still happy with the progress I have been able to make.

* I joined the Women in Business group for my local area and attended my first meeting yesterday.  It was quite inspiring and I was pleased to discover they work hard putting on events to raise money for local charities and charities close to members hearts.  The most enlightening thing about this was I attended the meeting without any nerves.  I felt confident about what I was doing - something that has somewhat eluded me in the past.

* I officially started working on my first paying clients Social Media work this week.  I have thoroughly enjoyed it and it has been good to see how I can fit it in around my main role as a stay at home mother.

* We were scheduled for a house inspection this week, so two days of cleaning, tidying and de-cluttering were undertaken.  The inspector failed to show up and however annoying that is, it feels lovely to really be on top of the house chores!

That's me for this week, hopefully next week I will have my brief submitted for my company logo and web design.  Fingers crossed!

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week? #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

What has made me cheerful this week - a great question.  The answer - quite alot.  I am linking up with Michelle at Mummy from the Heart and other bloggers who take some time throughout the week, no matter how good or bad, to find 'Reasons to be Cheerful'.

Here are mine, once you have read these, give some thought to your own week, even if you do not write it down the exercise will leave you feeling better than when you started.

* Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (#CCPW) was a huge success.  I had a lot of positive feedback and fabulous tweeters on Twitter really helped spread the word.  The really great news was several women messaged me to say that they had made a point of booking their screening.  My stand throughout the whole thing was if just one women did this it was all worth it, so you can imagine 'women' in the multiple sense was thrilling.  It was great to see such good national coverage on the campaign too.

* I spent the weekend with one of my oldest, dearest, best friends who I have not seen in person for ten years.  We lost touch a few years back, when life goes in different directions as it does but have been in touch virtually for over a year now.  We finally got our calendars together for a writing course we both really wanted to attend and made the whole weekend of it.  From the minute we met up on Friday evening we picked up where we had left off (but in nicer cars and houses) - and they say that is the sign of true friendship.

* I attended the Mumsnet hosted 'Starting out as a Freelance Writer' course at the weekend (tutor : Joanna Moorhead).  It was a wonderful insight into the world of feature writing.  Joanna broke down the myth and maze of getting ideas to relevant platforms. As well as being a great course, their was varied mix of women and it was so beneficial to have all of those minds joining in discussions and pitch practise.  I learnt an awful lot and feel very confident that this is the right direction of career for me now.

* My services in Social Media have been procured for some actual paid work.  It isn't too much to take on at the moment as J2 is still at home full time but enough for me to get into the routine of fitting work into my routine.

* I chucked my name in the hat for a writing competition run by The Readers Digest this week.  I thought 'Got to be in it to win it' so overcome my 'I am not good enough fear' and gave it a whirl.  I am going to do this more frequently, thanks to the fantastic supplement that came with Writers Magazine a few months ago.

* The adaptions on J1's car that have been misbehaving were finally remedied this week.  It has taken four months, due to a 'delivery address' misunderstanding but it is now all working as it should be.

* We got confirmation this week that J1's bike has been ordered.  I think I can hear the 'tap tap tink' of it being built in Holland as I type.  This means we will certainly have it for when the warmer weather decides to grace us with it's presence.

I did warn you I had a lot of harp on about this week - but I thank my lucky stars I can, not all weeks are so positive and proactive so I like to make the most of the ones that are.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

With predictions of an 'Arctic Drift' all over the news channels I am grateful that I can write this blog post from the comfort of a warm home.  That we have wardrobes full of warm clothes and cupboards stocked with food and drink.  I pray that those that do not have such luxuries, can find shelter and be safe.  I take my hat off, to those that volunteer their time and effort to making that a possibility.

I find at this time of year I often think of how I can help homeless charities.  When the bitter winds blow and it becomes even more apparent that we are so very fortunate in many ways.  Then I feel a tug of all charities.  They are all so worthwhile and all trying to raise funds to help fantastic causes - that ultimately are all as important as each other.

Then I realise that you can only do so much, and in the end you generally opt for the ones that are close to your heart due to personal experience.  You become even more grateful to them because you can relate.

Most of my readers know that I aim to help disability charities, with particular interest in specific Cerebral Palsy ones, as my eldest son, J1, has CP himself.  I have a special interest in supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital, because not only was my late, beautiful cousin Lesley treated there, but many of J1's friends from school also receive help from them.

What I revealed recently is that I also support gynaecological cancer charity GRACE after my own abnormal cells scare when I was younger.  It is this last one that will be the focus of my blog for the next week.

It is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (20 - 26 January) and I am cheerful because I have been able to pull together a great set of blog posts to raise awareness for this very preventable disease.

My one ask of anyone who regularly reads my blog, or who has just stumbled across it, is if you haven't been for a cervical screening recently, book it and go.  If you have, encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Cervical Screening picked up my CIN3 abnormal cell changes just in time and I was able to have the treatment to remove them.  That five minute appointment saved me from cycles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and operations.

That is a good enough reason to pick out to be cheerful any day of the week, not just this one.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

The first #R2BC of the year for me.  I hope to be able to write lots of these positive posts throughout the course of 2013 and join in the linky with Michelle at Mummy from the Heart, all round fantastic blogger and Reasons to be Cheerful founder and host.

The months of January and February are probably the hardest time of year to try and find positives.  Days are long, dark and cold.  It is harder to get out and about with the kids.  Even harder when you are trying to find indoor activities that are suitable for a lively 2 year old and a disabled 9 year old.

Work places seem to become more stressed and cash flow tight (isn't every ones?) in these months, which add pressure to home life.  Balancing and juggling become the order of the day.  Money, time, patience levels.

But all these things make it all the more important to spend five minutes finding some positives out of the week.  To help lift the spirits and see that in actual fact although it may not feel like it, progress has been made.

So, for the first of many for 2013, here are this weeks Reasons to be Cheerful :

* The flu virus I have been suffering with for almost a whole month finally seems to have left the building.  Although I still have a bit of a cold and the last of the sinus infection I have more energy.  Which has come in handy as school started back this week.

* We have been on time for school everyday this week and not forgot anything requiring further trips back and forth, one goal started to be achieved!

* We seem to have fallen straight into a good routine, both getting up in the morning and after school.  It feels nice to have some routine back.

* The book I (and other fellow bloggers contributed to) #100 Little Words has come out on Kindle.  I felt quite choked up showing my mum my words on her Kindle.

* I have to start researching for a Freelance Writing Course I am undertaking at the end of the month.  I am doing this course with one of my oldest school friends, who I haven't seen for 10 years, double excitement.

* The Hubby and I have barely seen each other this week so we have a lovely family time weekend planned, with a few home DIY activities.  We have decided although we can not afford to do much at the moment with our holiday coming up, we can do some de-cluttering and jobs 'we keep meaning to do' and start gathering ideas for a bit of home improvement.  We have a beautiful house and are not making the most of it's potential.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Things have been very busy over the last few weeks, so posts have been a bit lacking.  However, it is time to think about the week in all it's busy glory and pick out the best bits with Mummy from The Heart and Reasons to be Cheerful #R2BC.

So, as Christmas approaches and the end of 2012 heads even closer these are my happy memories of the week :

* The Christmas Tree is up and the decorations are out.  We opted for a fake tree this year, puppy paws and all that, but it was just as much fun to decorate and has made the room look very festive.  Even with the lack of a fireplace this year, I have even found a home for the stockings to be hung.

* The Christmas Films are also out of storage!  J2 is very much enjoying them this year, particularly The Polar Express, which thankfully happens to be my favourite.  I love it when we all snuggle on the sofa under the cosy blankets with mugs of hot chocolate and a big old bowl of popcorn.

* Most of the Christmas shopping is done.  This is pleasing because I now have next Wednesday planned - this consists of going to see J1's school Nativity, followed by the annual tradition of my mum and I wrapping the gifts to Christmas Cd's and eating a Terry's Chocolate Orange.

* Our Christmas plans are formed.  We know who is going where, when and who is doing what.  I am thankful we do not have massive dramas over this, I know some of my friends are struggling to please everyone they need too.

* Something not Christmas related - the puppy has not pooped overnight for nearly three weeks *whoop*

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

It has been a bit of a mixed bag this week.  Not so much for me, but for those around me.  I really hope that my friends and family who have encountered sadness, loss and change within life find strength within the dark times.

This has made me even more aware of the importance of finding the positives in your life and with this in mind here are my

* I should have attended Mumsnet Blogfest on Saturday.  I had purchased my ticket, arranged to see blogging friends made at Britmums Live in June and had stocked my blog-card holder.  However, National Rail thought it was acceptable for my already lengthy train journey into London, to be doubled due to multiple 'engineering works'.  I did not find the idea of having to leave my house at 4.45am and not return until approximately 11pm that night appealing and neither did my Husband think it would be safe.  So I had to forfeit my much looked forward to trip.

What is there to be cheerful about that?  Well of course I do wish I could have found alternate transport, or had the money for a hotel so I could have stayed in the city the night before but my time wasn't wasted.  I started a long overdue 'House De-clutter' project.  So far living room and kitchen are complete.  Quite a lot more to do but I do keep looking around the living room and smiling.

* Further to Operation De-clutter above I also created a 'writing space'.  We have a fabulous little nook on our landing that is overlooked by the window.  It was screaming out for a desk so I could write, in good light with a lovely view of the farmers fields.  I kept saying I wanted an antique desk and a Tiffany style lamp.  Then it dawned on me, I already have a lovely desk.  Well it is a bureau that the Hubby procured for me when we moved.  It wasn't being utilised for writing where it was, so with some minimal changes it has been re-situated in the nook.  Just got to find a lovely Tiffany lamp to adorn it with now.

* Something happened this week, that although I can not go into details of, made me really appreciate my Husband.

* I got to go Wedding Dress shopping.  Not for me of course (although I would have happily tried on every dress in the shop) but for one of my oldest friends.  Watching her try on dresses brought a tear to my eye and in the end the dress picked her.  She is going to look stunning and I am very much looking forward to hearing about the planning and preparation and trying to help make it the best experience ever for both the Bride and Groom.

* I have taken steps to find my running mojo, which has been lost since my BUPA Great South Run Race.  The cold, dark, lonely nights are not inspiring to go out running in.  Through the web page for the local Half Marathon I am entered into in March, I have found some other people who are also looking for company whilst running and have been advised of a running group that is actually quite local to me.  I get the feeling I will not only find company but inspiration too.

So that is it for my week.  For more positive inspiration head over to Michelle at Mummy from the Heart for the 'Reasons to be Cheerful' #R2BC blog hop and find other cheery souls.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

The time of the week for thinking about Reasons to be Cheerful with Mummy from the Heart is once again with us.  I am still minus my own laptop but thankfully have managed to procure a loaner for a couple of days so that is an instant #R2BC!

It has been surprising at how much not being able to write has frustrated me.  Not in the lack of time, I am used to that and know that as the children get older time will become available, but in the event I would have been able to sit down at the laptop and not being able to.

Anyway, I do have the power to 'power up' right now so am getting as much writing done as possible.  I am putting together posts in the hope of being able to get them scheduled to publish.  So on with my :

* I got to spend quality time with my 18 month old nephew and then had a family filled Saturday.  Even my older nephew came to visit with his 'girlfriend' - this makes me feel very old, but she was lovely and what was even more lovely - he didn't change one single bit around her.

* On Saturday night, The Hubby, The Kids and I all got dressed up for Halloween and went to our friends party.  I was so pleased with all of our costumes and I forgot how much fun it was to get dressed up all silly for a night out.  Plus I loved my wig!

* On Sunday we asked J1 what he would like to do as a birthday treat and he picked Ten Pin Bowling.  This is an activity that we can all enjoy so it was lovely to make an afternoon of it.

* On Monday my mum babysat J2 so that I could go and see to of my beautiful pregnant girlfriends whom I used to work with.  It has been far to long since our last catch up and they both looked stunning.

* On Tuesday we celebrated J1 turning nine years old.  He was unfortunately a little under the weather so couldn't go to school but we spent the day at home snuggling and reading his new books.

* I am hoping to be able to go and visit one of my friends that has recently had their baby on Friday.  I am a little wary that as the boys have been poorly I might be due a dose, but fingers crossed I will be well enough.

* I am also hoping the same thing for Saturday because I am off to Mumsnet Blogfest I am super excited about this having enjoyed Britmums Live earlier this year.  I am really looking forward to seeing the fabulous girls and fellow bloggers I met in June that are also attending; Older Mum in a Muddle; Single, Older Mum and Mush Brain Ramblings.

With the conclusion of my positives for the week please head over and check out other cheery souls at Mummy from the Heart.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

It is that time of the week once again to thrust out the negative and focus on the positive with Michelle at Mummy from the Heart for :

This week has been pretty action packed so without further ado, this is what has made me Cheerful this week :

* I successfully completed The BUPA Great South Run.  10 miles on a chilly, but thankfully dry morning in Portsmouth.

* The Great South Run afforded The Hubby and I a rare weekend alone together.  We caught up, laughed, and had a lovely time just the two of us.

* It is Half Term, which although manic is a pleasure.

* A friend has asked if I could do some social media volunteer work, for the charity GRACE, which I am really excited about.

* I have also been talking to the same friend about being involved with another exciting project, but details are still top secret at the moment.

* My Sister in Law is recovering at home from her massive surgery of last week so we went and collected my beautiful 18 month old nephew to look after for a few days, to ensure she has proper peace and quiet at home.  He is adorable and it is lovely to see him and J2 at the age where they can play nicely together.

* I managed to get an instalment of Camomile Crescent written and published within a week, rather than the usual two.  The mind is in overdrive of plot lines now, for that and some other WIP I have on the go.

* Lynsey The Mother Duck blog has received a record number of views for the month, which always thrills me.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

I believe, weeks where you may struggle - for whatever reason be it emotionally, physically, because you are under the weather - whatever, it is all the more important to sit and have a think about the positives that have happened during the week.

I have had a bit of a low spell of late so it has done me good thinking about the good going on in our life.  So linking up with Michelle from 'Mummy from the Heart' here are my

* The Hubby went for an interview this week and got offered a role.  If he does well in the first few months, fingers crossed, he'll be made permanent by Christmas.  This is a massive relief, and if he does get the go-ahead at Christmas, that will be an even bigger one.

* Another relief for our family is that my sister in law has finally had an operation she has been waiting two years for.  My sister in law suffered with a very rare condition during pregnancy called Gigantomastia (severe hyptrophy of the breasts - basically this meant that from when she fell pregnant her breasts did not stop growing) which left her requiring massive reconstructive surgery.  She has now had the surgery and begins her healing period, hopefully this will be an end to what has been a traumatic and uncomfortable couple of years.

* The weekend of the BUPA Great South Run is almost here.  My parents are looking after the children so that the Hubby and I can go to Portsmouth on our own.  Three child-free nights sleep lie ahead (might be disrupted by The Hubby's snoring but I will have to dig out my ear plugs).  Two nights in a lovely hotel, just the two of us in the lovely old Naval town.  The run is on Sunday (and I believe is being aired on Channel 5) so not only do we get a break but I get to experience a big race too.  We are also hoping to be able to catch up with my cousin in Southampton who just recently got engaged.

* J2, although being a little under the weather this week has been really rather amicable and I have managed to get some writing done.  In fact the next instalment of Camomile Crescent is written which gives me good opportunity to edit and re-work it - almost unheard of.  It has also meant I have been able to get some house work and ironing done here and there which all helps with feeling more in control.

* I have managed to get a date in the diary to see two of the girls (both expecting babies at the end of the year) who I used to work with.  We hardly get to meet up due to work and they live quite a distance from where I do, but with them both going on Maternity Leave soon it has been made possible.  Roll on November.

* J2 and I did some more baking from Jo Wheatley's 'Passion for Baking' book.  We tried out the Oat and Raisin cookies.  All I can say is we had better not make them too often or I am going to be the size of a house because they are so unbelievably delicious.  Even the first batch that I over-baked, although crunchy instead of chewy still have an amazing flavour.  All bow down to Jo.

* I was published as a guest post on the Pregnancy and Parenting website Wriggly Rascals this week.  Click here to see my post about Messy Play.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week

It was my intention to do lots of writing this week, posts and otherwise but unfortunately I have had no time to do so - best laid plans and all that.  However, no time like the present and I like to think about the positives of my week, even if it is the only thing I get to blog about.

This week Reasons to be Cheerful is being hosted by Becky at Lakes Single Mum so hop on over to see her if you want to read posts from other cheerful souls.

After another week has sped past in the blur of an eye, these are my reasons to be cheerful :

* Pregnant friend number two has delivered a little boy safe and well.  The fabulous couple now have a daughter and son and are very happy.

* My brother and his wife were part of a wedding party at the weekend so I got to spend time with my beautiful nephew SJ.  It was extra special this time because it is the first time J2 and SJ have really played together nicely.  I think SJ has been too little before now so to see them interacting was great.

* I have seen two of my best friends this week.  Monday was spent hunting for Halloween costumes and having lovely coffee and cake with Mrs B-R and today was spent visiting one of my oldest school friends and her baby boy JK and discussing (very excitedly) wedding plans.  Thrilled that I will be Bridesmaid for her next year and we booked a date in our diaries for her to go dress shopping.

* Hubby had his tummy assessment.  Although it isn't great that he is having the issues he is having it is good that they are being taken seriously and investigated.  The horrible part is now out of the way and we just have to wait for the results.

* I had two treats this week.  The first was a long overdue hair appointment.  It was lovely sitting in one place for more than 10 seconds, being brought coffee, biscuits and magazines.  The second was a surprise from the Hubby - a copy of the new Masterchef Food Bible.  Just having the page of weights / measurements etc in the front is worth its weight in gold.

* Even though I can feel a cold starting to break out I am happy it is this week and not next, when the Hubby and I have a night away in Portsmouth so I can participate in The Great South Run.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week

A busy week has meant that I am a little later than normal thinking about the positives of our week.  But of course that has meant there has been a multitude of items to choose from.

Reasons to be Cheerful is this week being hosted by the wonderful Mama Owl as Mummy from the Heart is with ONE Mums in Ethiopia - so if your week needs shouting about join in the blog hop with her.

This week this is what has made me cheerful :

* I am amongst a multitude of pregnant ladies at the moment and this week one arrived safe and well.  Mummy, Daddy, Big Sister and Baby Girl J.A are all doing well and I can not wait to go Baby Girl clothes shopping (any opportunity when you live in a house of boys).

* J2 and I had a lovely trip to our local Zoo (Gold Cards were definitely worth it) with one of my oldest friends from school, his sister and her son for whom we were celebrating his second birthday.  Many laughs were had and the boys played so well together.  They were both asleep before we left the car park at the end of the day.

* We had a wonderful piece of post arrive saying that we can get a power pack for J1's wheelchair.  This will make a huge difference and make our sea front walks possible again and Zoo trips available even when it can only be mum and I that can go.  This opens up a lot of opportunities to get J1 out and about more.

* We attended a wonderful Harvest Festival service with J1's school.  A sure sign of Autumn.

* I submitted a piece of writing to a very positive response and have been asked for another.  I have also been asked to guest post for a parenting website, all very exciting.

* Potty training is continuing with J2 and this week has been more good days than bad.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Yet another week has sped past in a flurry of school runs, rain and picking up (lots) of puppy poopy.  But a lot of changes have happened in the fast paced week.

With the arrival of October, much Halloween discussion has started on Facebook.  Some people have even dared to start discussions on the 'C' word.  In our house we are not allowed to mention the 'C' word until after J1's birthday in November.

The heating is scheduled to come on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening - just to take the chill off.

The 'Winter Warmer' recipes have been cracked out of the cook books in preparation for walking in from the cold to a smell of slow cooked meals to melt in the mouth.

Yes, a season has truly changed this week.

One thing has stayed the same however.  That is, it's Thursday and time to think about things that have made me cheerful this week.  This is a blog hop with Mummy from The Heart - if you need lifting hop on over and read some other happy and grateful posts.

So, what has the last seven days meant for me?

* I participated in Race for Life and it was truly inspiring.  I was also very happy with my time!

* J2 and I have been baking this week.  We made fairy cakes from 'Jo Wheatley A Passion From Baking'.  I made the cakes and J2 did the toppings (well a few he lost interest after that) but they were all yummy.  There are many more recipes in this book that just look amazing and I can not wait to try them out.

* The Puppy is settling well.  She is very playful and eating well.  She is getting used to sleeping downstairs.  Now she has had her first set of injections she can go out in the garden - which means less poop hunting indoors.

* A couple of writing opportunities have come to light which is very exciting.

* I purchased my Mumsnet Blogfest ticket and am very excited about seeing Mush Brain Ramblings, The Digital Baby and Older Mum in a Muddle in November for a reunion.  One of my best school friends also said she is hoping to attend, if she does it will be the first time we have seen each other for about ten years.

We have quite a busy seven days approaching so hopefully there will be lots to be cheerful about next week too.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week

The week has, again, rapidly passed by in the blur of an eye and it is that time of the week to look back and pick out the positives with

It has been a strange old week weather wise.  Summer seems to have turned directly into early winter, with beautiful Autumn being passed by completely.  I hope this isn't the case.  I love the bright blue cloudless skies and that crisp and fresh air that normally becomes late September and October.

With the 'adios' to Summer, comes a new routine and things like experimenting with meals and baking comes back into the fray in this household.  For starters today J2 and I made Chocolate Rice Krispie treats, as a surprise for J1 (his favourite).  Tomorrow we are making Fairy Cakes from Jo Wheatleys (last years 'Great British Bake Off' winner) 'A Passion for Baking' book.

So without further delay these are my 'Reasons to be Cheerful' this week :

* J1 is continuing to get absolutely glowing daily reports from school.  I was also extremely pleased that finally his new 'wedge' has arrived and he can re-start his 'interactive floor' sessions, as he thoroughly enjoys these.

* I finally took the plunge and used my J2 free Wednesday to go to the local Spa.  I took four hours to read, eat cake, lay in the sauna, cool down in the Jacuzzi and lunch.  I had set myself a goal of doing this once every three months this year.  This is the first one to date but I hope to fit one in at the end of October after my 'Great South Run' race.

* As mentioned earlier with the cooler months developing the baking equipment is back out and I hope to be brave enough to test lots of new recipes from the books I have gathered up since the last time I got into 'baking' mode.

* I was thrilled to finish my 10K race at the weekend in a time of 1.06, much better than I had been anticipating.  I have got my re-arranged 5K Race for Life to look forward to this Sunday.

* Now the children are 'back to school' swimming can resume with J2 - first session is tomorrow.  I am hoping to get some 'lengths' in at the end of the toddler session as my mum is coming to get J2 dried and dressed for me.

* Lynsey The Mother Duck has received a new record number of page views for the month already.  This is amazing and the best inspiration to work even harder for the blog.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

In line with my efforts at positive thinking it is time for :

Reasons to be Cheerful with Mummy From The Heart.

So, without further ado here are my reasons to be cheerful this week :

* J1 started back at school without tears or fretting.  This has continued into week number two, much to our delight.  Although he wasn't changing classes this year, the structure of make up of children and teachers / assistants has changed so it was as good as.  But, he seems to be thoroughly enjoying it and is coming home smiling, bubbly and cheeky.

* I have re-started with our healthy eating meal planning / cooking.  This seriously lapsed over the summer, probably due to the change in our daily routine.  Plus with my race approaching in October I need to be eating healthily as well as training so needed all round.  We have even been able to have some home-grown vegetables from the Greenhouse!

* As mentioned in yesterdays post 'The Disability Diaries - Holiday of a Lifetime' we have booked a fabulous vacation to Florida for next year.  This has boosted everybodies spirits and we are looking forward to it and planning with gusto.

* In preparation for the above holiday I have started potty training with J2.  We are having good and bad days but hopefully are heading in the right direction.  Watch this space.

* We recently purchased Annual Gold cards for our local Zoo as they were on a brilliant offer, so have been able to make the most of those in the last few days of warm summer weather.  The Hubby was even able to come this time so extra lovely.

* The boys and I had a wonderful afternoon of messy play in the garden at the weekend.  We did lots of hand and feet painting.  I am so pleased with how they have come out that I am thinking about framing them for the wall.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

The return of an abcess has taken the wind out of my sails a little today.  In addition to this I think the muggy night sent the option of a comfortable sleep for J2 into space, so we are running a little under fuelled.

So, what better time than to think about all the positive things from the week, and boy it has been a busy and active week!  So without further ado, these are my multitude of reasons to be Cheerful this week.

1. BritMums Live 2012 was everything that it hyped itself up to be.  Two intense but laughter filled days were spent at a beautiful venue in the heart of London.  I came away with new friendships, lots of information, a tonne of goody bags and a photograph of myself with Ruby Wax.

2. My wonderful and generous husband booked me into a very swish hotel, The Montcalm, next door to the venue as a surprise.  It was so nice to know that I did not have to trot around London getting back to the hotel.  The very nice receptionist also upgraded me to a Club Suite so I felt even more spoilt.  If we could have taken a time machine to extend the length of the evening it would have been lovely if the Hubby could have indulged with me.

3. As another surprise The Hubby came and picked me up from the event on Saturday night from the doors of the venue.  This was much appreciated as I could barely carry all the bags of freebies accumulated over the course of two days and I am not sure I would have made it to the station without the assistance of a taxi.  It was such a heartwarming moment, although feeling sad at leaving some amazing women and a plethora of memories made, to walk out and see them smiling faces of the Hubby and Children.

4. Having a short break away is and was fantastic, but there is nothing like some time away from home and your family to make you want to get back to them.  I do love (and require) some 'alone' time every now and then but chaos of everyday SAHM life does keep me fit and young at heart.

5. The last two months have been extremely hectic, busy and social.  So it is with a small 'Oh my word' that I find myself with only a week to get packed for our holiday.  However, I like it when good things creep up on you because we now have a week of excitement before we depart, which will fly for me as I descend into a frenzied week of washing, ironing, lists, purchasing and packing.

6. We confirmed that we have managed to get a 'Wheelchair Bike' for our holiday for J1.  I will never forget the excitement in his voice when he said 'Daddy and Bob-Bob [Uncle] will ride with me!'

7. We confirmed that we have got places booked on the High Wire Challenge (post will come out of that I am sure).

8. I have got my first 5K race on Friday night.  I am running well into 5K comfortably now so I am really looking forward to it.  It will be good to log a time so that over the next few weeks, when I have got various 5K races signed up I can see if I can beat it.

9. A very dear friend, that sadly suffered a miscarriage earlier this year confided that she is 14 weeks pregnant.  I am thrilled beyond belief for her and her husband.

10.  J2 and I found a fantastic 'J2 age appropriate' park, just a five minute walk from our house.  Anything that burns of some of J2's copious amounts of energy is always a positive thing.  Let's hope that the Summer might decide to make a more permanent appearance soon.

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

This post is a little later than normal as it has been quite a busy week.  As usual with The Great British weather, I learnt from the reports our run of sunshine was to be short lived, so I decided I had to make the most of it and get outside to have fun with the kids, garden and exercise, thus the blog took a bit of a back seat.

Then of course, the chilly days and rain set in and in amongst trying to get the house a little straighter I have managed to start putting together a few posts to get out this week.  So no better time, with the grey skies putting a bit of a dampener on the (extra) long Diamond Jubilee weekend, to think happy thoughts and sum up 'What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?'

* We got the business accounts done for this quarter, always a weight off of the shoulders and a reminder that we shouldn't leave so much to the last minute.

* What better reason to be cheerful than the fact we had, not only a long weekend, but an 'extra' long weekend with the wonderful, and unique celebration of the Queens Diamond Jubilee.  I was thinking about this earlier, this really was a once in a lifetime celebration.  We had bunting.  We had flags.  We had a 'Very Royal High Tea', including using all our super special Royal Albert China (this is rare because I can't put it in the dish washer...)

* The blog hit another new month view record.  I am so happy that the blog is slowly but surely growing.  Not only that but I am getting more pleasure and satisfaction from writing the longer and more frequently that I am doing it, rather than growing tired of it.

* It is half term - always a reason to smile.  Extra time with J1 to be had with lots of fun planned, including a session in the sensory room that J1 loved on his birthday.

* The Hubby and I had a 'surprise' night to ourselves this week.  It was amazing, we laughed, talked, ate, played pool and really reconnected.  Something we had both said earlier in the week we felt had been a little lacking of late.  We won't leave 'us' time so long next time.

* I have managed to fit some form of exercise in almost everyday for the last week and it has felt amazing.  Mixing runs with non impact exercise, like swimming and cycling has really made me inspired to keep this going and I am now seriously giving the Marathon in 2013 consideration.

On that high note I urge you to be inspired by others positive thoughts over at Mummy from the Heart :

What Has Made Me Cheerful This Week?

Having struggled a little this week with motivation, I am pleased that I indulge in this link up.  I like to bullet point anything and everything that could possibly make it on to the final list of What Has Made Me Cheerful this week - that in itself cheers me up - before composing my post.

So here are my top choices for this weeks Reasons to be Cheerful :

* Settling into the new home.  We truly love this house and it feels like home already.  Of course it helps that boxes are slowly disappearing from sight, although the task of sorting the over stuffed garage is a little daunting...

* This weekend we are having a big family gathering for my parents Ruby Wedding Anniversary.  Final preparations are gathering speed now (I do love organising a 'do').  My outfit has arrived (the theme is that all guests must be wearing at least one red item - otherwise I have suitable forfeit items...) and we will get to see some family members that I haven't seen for, I would say 15 years!

* Although things are still busy at the house, now we are in I have had a few minutes to really appreciate the lovely birthday gifts I received.  One of which was a Kindle Touch.  I admit, I was not keen on the idea when Hubby first presented it (old fashioned book lover here - I love the smell of a new book) but now it is up and running I am loving the ease of it.  This also coincides with another reason to be cheerful and that is the discovery of some great new authors (via other blog recommendations) of which their books now sit downloaded on, said Kindle.

* This week has graced us with a few hours of blue sky and sunshine.  A welcome break from the grey gloom and drizzle we have been suffering for the last couple of weeks.  Always a good mood 'pick me up'.

* Joining in Julia's Place 100 Word Challenge has really got the creative mind racing this week - I encourage everyone to check it out and give it a go.
