I'm sure there are many people who appreciate the extra money, like the employer on the phone-in said. I'm not a shopper, either through the week or at weekends, but I didn't really like when my town was a ghost town because everything was closed. If it was sunny, people could meet in the park, but if it was rainy, we were all stuck indoors, individually. I don't like enforced quiet days (maybe as a hangover from childhood...?) I'll choose one if I need one. But as you say, each to their own. At least now there are many, many places to go where children are welcome. Hopefully the staff there are happy to work that day! I would think that Sunday becoming a 'busy' day has helped many people, financially and socially, if for any reason they do not have, or do not live near, or are involved with family. I am not against it, just sometimes wish that we still had a slow down day, it was something I enjoyed that I don't think my own children will ever get the full feeling of. But then it also offers them a whole host of things that I didn't get the chance to experience as a child.xLynsey Summershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09026494707946270279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7285764348871241345.post-26353949937886373892012-04-06T17:00:54.468+01:002012-04-06T17:00:54.468+01:00Interesting points. I especially liked reading your memories of childhood Sundays, the roast, not much to do, the chart show. That is what it was like for me too - life really did drop down a gear to a slower pace on Sundays; all the shops were shut, and our village was like a ghost town. The only time that feeling ever comes back for me now is really Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.

My bug bear about the Easter weekend is the sheer amount of chocolate that Pip gets bought by all my relatives. It really is ridiculous! We'll still be eating it at Christmas!Mummy Plumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10746501465644149765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7285764348871241345.post-38116893124647145182012-04-06T16:47:56.742+01:002012-04-06T16:47:56.742+01:00I like being able to pop out for a pint of milk et...I like being able to pop out for a pint of milk etc now and again, but I think its important that everyone has some kind of rest over the weekend. At the same time I would not want to take away the choice for anyone who wishes to work on Sundays. I don't think it was very nice that someone rammed their opinion down your throat. very good point you made about the fact the holiday is about new beginnings.Older Mumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02923339244117157344noreply@blogger.com
